Hello MGSL Families:
We hope this post finds you all healthy and well.
Like many other organizations, MGSL has had to put on hold its activities for the last month. As a youth organization, we always keep the safety and well-being of our players at the forefront of our decisions. Following Governor Baker’s announcement of school closures for the remainder of the school year, we have decided that there is no option but to cancel the spring 2020 softball season.
This was not a decision we took lightly. Although we would like nothing better than to gather with you at Burnham Road, cheering our players on at this time we cannot in good conscience move forward with the Spring 2020 season. As disappointing as this is especially for our U-15 players and graduating seniors, our primary concern at this time must be the health and safety of our MGSL families.
Traditionally on opening day for the spring season through the generosity of opening day sponsors, we award scholarships to graduating seniors who have been part of the MGSL family. In spite of the loss of a substantial portion of opening day revenues, we will be awarding MGSL scholarships this year. The board feels that our seniors have lost enough with the unfortunate but understandable cancellation of end of year events.
Applications are currently being reviewed and we will announce the recipients soon. We are also still working out the details of how to award the recipients during this time of social distancing. If you are interested in donating towards the scholarship fund or $25 of their refund to the scholarship fund, please let us know. Even a small donation will help provide scholarships to our deserving seniors.
Finally, we want to let everyone know that we are working on providing refunds to players. If you would like to donate a portion of your refund to the scholarship fund for this year’s seniors, please let us know. More information will follow shortly.
We know that the last weeks have been a trying time for all of us as we work through the changes in our daily lives from work schedules, homeschooling and social distancing. We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding while we worked to figure out this path for MGSL.
As an all-volunteer-run organization, MGSL is a labor of love for all involved – love of softball, our kids and our community. We hope you and your loved ones stay safe and healthy through these difficult times. We look forward to seeing each of you at Burnham Road soon.
